Since their public debut in June 2018, the Hollywood Vagabonds have set their sights on becoming one of Mobile’s favorite up-and-coming cover bands. Covering hit songs from the 80s, the band strives to appeal to all generations, but specifically to those looking to relive their “glory days” from the 1980s.

Performing throughout the Mobile and Baldwin County area, the Hollywood Vagabonds put on a four-hour long show while in full costume, hair and makeup. Taking inspiration from legendary bands such as Van Halen, Def Leppard and Skid Row, the band uses face paint, metal accessories and flamboyant attire to mimic the style of bands from the 80s rock era.

Aside from visual appearance, the band’s energetic stage presence, shown through their movement on stage and interaction with the audience aims to give audience members the feeling as though they are at a miniature concert, producing a lively atmosphere. “To sum it up, we try to not be just a band, we’re entertainment,” explained drummer Jonah Bam Miller.

Performing songs ranging from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” to Motley Crüe’s “Wild Side,” the band’s set is packed full of classic hits, impressive instrumental solos and the chance for lead vocalist Jason Rushing to show off his vocal range, which he never shies away from the opportunity. Compared to other bands that Rushing has played in, he enjoys playing 80s rock and metal saying, "I’ve done everything, but my forte is metal, hair metal, rock. It’s more of a challenge, and I like that”

Alongside Rushing is guitarist Jake Fleetwood who is also eager to shred during a guitar solo. Fleetwood's guitar inspiration comes from, you guessed it, the 80s. Looking up to David Lee Roth Band's Steve Vai and Van Halen's Eddie Van Halen, Fleetwood thrives off the energy for guitarists who are "good at what they do."

By incorporating these 80s rock band elements, the band aims to put on a show rather than become “background noise” to the audience’s conversations. “We want to be a show,” said bass player Andrew Wood. “We want you to forget about what happened at work or the fight you got into with your old lady.” Fleetwood agreed saying, “It’s four hours of ‘forget about your life, come and have a good time’.
